C.H.O.I.C.E.S. Program Curriculum

Choosing Hope Over Influence, Changing Every Situation

The C.H.O.I.C.E.S. Program curriculum is rooted in evidence-based principles adapted from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). This strengths-based, trauma-informed framework is designed to address emotional regulation, critical thinking, goal setting, and personal accountability. The curriculum includes modules on:

  • Emotional Intelligence & Self-Awareness: Participants learn to identify, understand, and manage their emotions while developing empathy and healthy interpersonal skills.

  • Anger Management & Conflict Resolution: Strategies for recognizing triggers, de-escalating conflict, and developing nonviolent communication skills are taught and practiced.

  • Substance Use Prevention & Mental Health Awareness: Sessions promote awareness of addiction cycles, teach coping mechanisms, and offer tools for mental wellness and self-care.

  • Decision-Making & Problem-Solving: Participants engage in exercises that enhance judgment, encourage personal responsibility, and support long-term thinking.

  • Goal Setting & Growth Mindset:  The curriculum emphasizes setting realistic, measurable goals and cultivating resilience through a growth-oriented perspective.

Delivered through interactive workshops, group discussions, and guided reflections, the program equips participants with the tools to make positive life choices and overcome personal challenges. Led by experienced facilitators, including volunteer instructor Dwayne Thompson, the curriculum meets participants where they are, supporting holistic growth and transformation.
